Conecty eSIM FAQs โ€“ Everything You Need to Know

First you need to consider the model of your device. The eSIM is only compatible with last generation devices. To choose your plan, whether it is daily unlimited or Data GB plans, it is important to understand your level of consumption. An average person consumes between 1GB and 1.5GB per day (this average consumption is measured with the use of social media, messaging, and streaming apps). Destination is also an important factor. There are places in the world where you are constantly using your data, whether checking Waze or Maps, reading TripAdvisor reviews, looking for places to visit, or sharing details of the trip with your friends and relatives in real time via social media or messages. This usage measures your consumption and will determine the best plan for you.

Yes, you can keep your number. Your messaging or calling apps like WhatsApp and Telegram will not be affected. Nevertheless, depending on the destination, you may have a phone number assigned to your plan so you can receive calls or subscribe to certain apps. This will not affect any of the apps linked to your local phone number. Also, remember this is not a permanent change. It will only operate while you use your Conecty eSIM.

If you run out of data before your trip ends, you have the option in many of our plans to charge credit and stay connected. Nevertheless, it is important to check this possibility for your eSIM at the destination you are traveling to beforehand.

Our international eSIMs cannot be installed in multiple devices simultaneously. Once your eSIM is installed, you cannot transfer it to a different device, and you will need to buy a new one if you require another device using the service.

It is important to keep in mind that your phone needs to be unlocked, meaning that it must not be blocked by your mobile network operator to receive a different eSIM.

What does it mean to have an unlocked phone?
Mobile phones depend on mobile network operators to make calls and use data. These operators allow the phones to connect to the network. If your phone is unlocked, it means you can connect to the network of any carrier. If not, you can only connect your phone to the network of a single operator. Therefore, if you try to use a new eSIM, it will not work.

How can I know if my phone is unlocked?

  • Check with the store in which you bought your phone. If the purchase was made in an official store (Samsung or Apple), it should be unlocked. If you got it at a network operator store, it is important to verify directly with them.
  • If you have an iPhone with IOS14 and up, you can follow these steps:
    1. Go to Settings.
    2. Scroll down and click on General.
    3. Go to About.
    4. Then, slide down and look for the option Carrier Lock. If 'No restrictions to the SIM' shows up, you can use an eSIM. If not, your iPhone is locked by a specific network operator.

It depends on the plan you have with your network provider. For 1-, 2-, or 3-day trips, it may be a good option, but for longer trips there is no doubt it is better to get an eSIM. However, we want you to be clear with the following aspects, so you are an informed customer before taking a decision:

  1. Our eSIM offers higher navigation speed than any roaming operator. With Conecty you can navigate at 4G LTE or 5G. At these speeds, all your Apps will work faster.
  2. To navigate at these higher speeds, it is necessary to have a good data plan. In Conecty all the plans are in GBs or unlimited, opposite to roaming, in which almost every plan is measured in MBs (a lower unit than GB). They also offer capacity for low-consumption Apps. That is to say, you may finish your daily data limit in a few hours or, even worse, you may have to face extra charges for your consumption.
  3. With Conecty you wonโ€™t have to deal with confusing contracts. The information is always clear, with no clauses of permanence or surprises in your invoice.
  4. If you need help, at Conecty we have a team of experts 21 hours a day, 7 days a week. You will have quick and direct attention, so you donโ€™t spend much time from your trip with a call center waiting for assistance (If you have experienced this with other services from your home country, then you know what we are talking about).
  5. We are experts in International Mobile Communication, that is our core business. Hence, our plans use the networks from the biggest network operators from each country, offering better reception and coverage.

Just saying YES would be an easy and obvious way to answer. Nevertheless, here are some facts so you can answer this question by yourself:

  • We have been in the market for 10 years, accompanying international travelers aiming to be always connected, with coverage in more than 190 destinations around the world.
  • By working with the biggest network operators from every country, you will always be navigating using the main network of each destination.
